We spent the last week of June staying with friends in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I took along some watercolors, a medium I haven’t used in a while. It is very different than oil since you have to preplan the image to make sure that you leave some white areas. Once they are covered they are hard to get back. I had to throw a lot of the work I did away, but here are a few I thought worth keeping.

I love the different light in this area of the country. The arid landscape is very different than the usual ubiquitous green from Maryland. Here is green is more the exception than the rule.

Lilies

Lilies

My daughter, home from college, found a job working for a local farmer’s market selling flowers. I am happy she has found work in the tough job market (and also like the employee discount I get!). The first day on the job she brought home this amazing bouquet of lilies that still looked good even after a week. This drawing is done with a fine ink pen by simply looking for the negative shapes and drawing exactly what I saw.
