About TomI began painting as a teenager, inspired by the rolling hills, forests and streams that surrounded our rural home in Potomac, Maryland and later by the work of the Impressionists. I studied painting at the Rhode Island School of Design, and later used this art background to develop a career in the field of graphic arts. As an adult, I renewed my interest in painting by studying with Walt Bartman at the Yellow Barn Studio in Glen Echo, Maryland. My focus is on creating solid and naturalistic form by the study of the observable world and an application of rich color and expressive brush strokes. I have exhibited several times and have an upcoming show at the Yellow Barn Gallery on September 22-23 .
